A Closer Look at Wedding Live Streams and What It Takes to Make Them Successful.

San Diego Wedding Live Stream Company

In short, your wedding ceremony live stream can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. Let’s start with the basics and work our way up, explaining common scenarios and how a successful live stream is achieved.

The Basics.

What’s needed for a successful live stream of a traditional ceremony where the bride and groom are being wed at the alter? The answer is simple:

  • Picture

  • Sound

  • and Internet Connection

In this most basic scenario, we get our picture from a video camera, ideally placed somewhere that’s unobstructed by guests.

We get sound from the DJ’s sound mixer, which has the microphones being fed into them, and possibly a mix of the ceremony playlist if there isn’t a live band/quartet playing.

And lastly, we get internet from the venue or our bonded cellular internet device.

The scenario above is the most common and is the easiest to achieve from a technical and logistics standpoint.

If you’re looking for an easy, cost effective way to share your wedding ceremony in real time, this is the way to go. Check out our “Basic Live Stream 1 Camera” package for more details.

In some cases, you may wish to add a second or third camera angle to capture as many important angles as possible.

For example, a wide shot with the entire ceremony in frame, a close up shot of the bride for her vows, and a close up shot of the groom for his vows.

Adding cameras is relatively easy. We are able to take a second or third camera angle over wireless transmitters and cut between all 3 camera sources. The only drawbacks to adding more cameras is that it requires more equipment, which requires longer setup time, more crew, and in turn increases the cost of the overall live stream.

If you’re looking for full coverage of your ceremony, with multiple camera angles, closeup shots of both Bride and Groom, reactions from your wedding guests, and other creative shots, our “Custom Live Stream” package below is the definitely the right choice.

A note on audio in greater detail:

We typically rely on your wedding DJ for the sound/audio portion of the live stream. This negates the need for 2 microphones on each person that is speaking, e.g. 1 microphone going to the PA speakers for the in-person guests and 1 microphone going to the live stream audience. Essentially we’re trying to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Going beyond a simple live stream.

As mentioned earlier, adding additional camera angles to your wedding live stream is relatively straightforward. Yes, it adds additional cost because more equipment and crew are needed, but technically speaking, it’s rather simple.

Where things get a bit complicated is if you want to stream from multiple locations, with multiple cameras, or if you need a complex audio solution for a full band or something outside of a bride, groom, and officiant scenario.

Typically we stream just the ceremony portion of your wedding. If for example you want to stream your ceremony but also stream your reception and remain live during the change of locations, some planning and location scouting will be required.

We will need to know the distance between locations, what the path or route is between location A and location B, and plan a way to quickly move equipment so we’re ready to go when the reception begins.

Of course, audio will need to be sorted out for the second location too.

This is not to say that location changes are impossible, but to inform you that it definitely creates some unique challenges and as a result, adds cost to the overall production.
